Frequently Asked

FAQs

Surefoot invented and patented the modern ski boot heater. Winterheat is the original — every medal-winning alpine skier in the first Winter Olympics following its launch used Surefoot's heated technology, and the system is still skied by Olympians and World Cup racers today. If you see "ski boot heater" anywhere else, it's a copy of what we invented.
Three things: (1) Winterheat is the original patented ski boot heater from Surefoot — we invented the category. (2) Every Surefoot Contoura liner ships heater-integrated, so there's no aftermarket install required — just add the batteries. (3) Bluetooth control, 10 heat levels, and up to 17 hours of continuous warmth per charge. Other heaters give you 1–4 levels, no app, and a fraction of the battery life.
If you ski cold — or if cold toes end your day early — absolutely. Cold feet don't just hurt; they reduce circulation, which reduces your ability to feel and steer your skis. Winterheat keeps your feet at a controlled temperature all day, so you stay on the mountain longer and ski with better control from first chair to last.
Yes. All Surefoot Contoura liners are heater-integrated — they come pre-installed with the heating element built into the toe box. To activate the heat, simply purchase Winterheat batteries and clip them to your liner.
Absolutely. Winterheat is compatible with all ski boots and liners. The heating element takes about 20 minutes for us to install in a stock liner, and the battery clips work on any boot shell.
Up to 17 hours of continuous warmth on a full charge. Real-world battery life depends on the heat setting you use — lower settings stretch a charge across multiple ski days, while setting 10 (maximum heat) will shorten runtime.
The charging port is located under the metal clip at the bottom of the battery. Pull back the clip and plug in the USB-C charger that came with your purchase. Charge overnight before a ski day for a full 17-hour runtime.
Yes. The Winterheat app is available for both iOS and Android. It pairs via Bluetooth and lets you adjust heat level, pause, and monitor battery percentage. You can still run Winterheat manually using the button on the battery itself if you'd rather leave your phone in the pocket.
Winterheat has 10 heat settings. Level 1 is a gentle warmth to keep toes from numbing on a cold chairlift; level 10 is maximum heat — typically more than you need, best saved for below-zero mornings. Most customers ski on 3–5.
Winterheat has been rigorously tested — every medal-winning alpine skier in the first Winter Olympics after its launch used it. The system is IPX-rated for wet conditions and includes a manufacturer's warranty. If something goes wrong, bring your Winterheat to any Surefoot location and we'll take care of it.
Yes. Winterheat works with any liner that has room for the heating element — snowboard boots, telemark boots, AT boots, and walking boots included. Bring your boots into any Surefoot location and our technicians will install the heating element into the existing liner (about 20 minutes) and fit the battery clips to the shell.
Yes. Winterheat batteries are lithium-ion and within TSA/FAA carry-on limits. Always pack them in your carry-on bag (never checked luggage — that's an airline rule for all lithium batteries). We recommend keeping the batteries in their original case during travel for the best protection.
The heating element sits on top of the toe box — where cold tends to start and where heat benefits circulation most. The warmth spreads from the toes through the foot as circulation improves. Most customers report warm feet overall, even though the element is targeted at the toe area.
Yes. There's a manual button directly on each battery — you can cycle through the 10 heat levels by pressing it, no phone required. The Bluetooth app is a convenience layer (pausing, monitoring battery %, syncing settings across both feet) but Winterheat works fully without it.
If you already own Surefoot Contoura liners, you can order replacement batteries online. For a full Winterheat system installed into a stock (non-Surefoot) liner, come into any of our 29 locations — installation takes about 20 minutes.
Winterheat is sold as a pair (one battery per boot) because each foot needs its own heater. Replacement batteries can be purchased individually if you ever lose or damage a single unit — just come into any Surefoot location or contact us online.
