Lange Ski Boots

Lange made the first plastic ski boot in 1962 and has been a race-room fixture ever since. It is also the brand our own Surefoot x Lange shell program is built on. The current line runs three ways. Shadow is the all-mountain boot: a Dual Core shell with Lange's Dual Pivot cuff and Suspension Blade, built to flex cleanly and absorb vibration so you ski longer with less effort. RS is the race boot: a stiffer Dual Core shell that holds the foot close to the plastic for experts, instructors and racers who want precision first. Concept is the comfort boot: Lange's roomiest last, the micro-adjustable BOA Fit System and an easy-entry shell for skiers who want performance without a fight getting in.
Shadow and RS both come in more than one last. LV is 97 mm, MV is 100 mm and HV is 102 mm, measured across the forefoot at a size 26.5. Which one is right depends on the shape of your foot, not on how a boot feels in the shop for five minutes, so every Lange fitting at Surefoot starts with a 3D scan. Your fitter uses the scan to choose the shell and the size, and the boot can go home as it comes. If you want more, a custom orthotic holds your foot in a neutral position and a foam-injected Surefoot liner fills the space between your foot and the shell. Both are options at any fitting, not a requirement. That is also why we sell the Surefoot x Lange shells without a stock liner: we build ours into them in store.
Women's Shadow and RS models use a women's-specific shell and cuff and run from a soft 85 flex to the 120 LV short cuff. Junior racers get the RSJ series and the RS short-cuff boots.

Scan
A 3D scan of both feet gives your fitter length, width and arch in millimeters. It is how we choose between LV, MV and HV instead of guessing.

Custom orthotic
Optional at any fitting. Built from your scan in about 30 minutes, it holds your foot in a neutral position so the shell and liner above it can do their jobs.

Custom liner
Also optional. A Surefoot liner is foam-injected around your foot inside the Lange shell, filling the space a stock liner leaves and setting the fit from day one.

Questions
Are Lange ski boots narrow?
Lange's reputation comes from its 97 mm LV race last, but the current Shadow and RS lines also come in 100 mm MV and 102 mm HV versions. If you have been told Lange is too narrow for you, that was probably the LV. A scan tells us which last fits before you try one on.
What is the difference between Lange Shadow and RS?
Shadow is the all-mountain boot: Dual Pivot cuff and Suspension Blade for a smooth flex and vibration absorption, in three lasts. RS is the race boot: a stiffer Dual Core shell that holds the foot closer to the plastic for edge control. Most skiers who are not racing are better served by the Shadow. Experts and racers who want precision over comfort choose the RS. If you skied the older Lange RX, the Shadow is its replacement.
Do you sell Lange ski boots online?
No. Ski boots and liners are fitted in store only. The shell has to be chosen on your foot, and a custom liner or orthotic, if you add one, is built the same day. Which Lange boot is right for women?
Lange's women's models use a women's-specific shell and cuff. The Shadow 85 MV and the Shadow 95 in LV, MV or HV suit progressing skiers; the Shadow 115 LV and the RS 110 and 120 LV short-cuff boots are for strong and expert skiers. Your fitter chooses by foot shape and how you ski, not by the label.
What flex should I choose?
Flex is the number in the model name (85, 95, 110, 120, 130) and describes how hard the boot is to bend forward. Heavier and stronger skiers, and anyone skiing fast on firm snow, go stiffer. Lighter skiers and softer snow go softer. Your fitter settles it in the store with the shell on your foot.
How does Lange sizing work?
Lange sizes in mondopoint, which is the length of your foot in centimeters: a 26.5 fits a 26.5 cm foot. Sizes run in half steps from 21.5 in junior models to 31.5. At Surefoot the scan gives us your length and width in millimeters, so you never size a boot from a chart.
