Nordica was founded in Montebelluna, Italy, in 1939 by the brothers Adriano and Oddone Vaccari, leather traders who started out making casual footwear. Zeno Colò won the downhill and the giant slalom at the 1950 World Championships on Nordica boots, and in 1963 the company built an all-polyurethane ski boot and became the first in Italy to put buckles on one. Nordica is a division of Tecnica Group today.
The current alpine range sits on five widths. Promachine is the narrow boot at 98 mm, for a low-volume foot that wants the plastic close. Speedmachine is the 100 mm all-mountain boot and the biggest line here, most of it now closed by a BOA dial on the lower shell instead of two buckles. Sportmachine is the same boot two millimeters wider. HF is the 102 mm boot that closes with one buckle at the back of the cuff, so the shell swings open, you step in, and you shut it with a foot or a pole. Skiers still call it a rear-entry boot. Cruise is the wide one at 104 mm, and Unlimited is the 99 mm touring boot with a walk mode.
Which width and which flex you need comes from the shape of your foot and how you ski, not from how a boot feels in the shop for five minutes, so every Nordica fitting at Surefoot starts with a 3D scan. Your fitter uses the scan to choose the shell and the size, and the boot can go home as it comes. If you want more, a custom orthotic holds your foot in a neutral position and a foam-injected Surefoot liner fills the space between your foot and the shell. Both are options at any fitting, not a requirement. Women's models run on the same widths with a women's fit, from the Speedmachine 3 85 BOA and the HF 85 up to the Promachine 105.

Scan
A 3D scan of both feet gives your fitter length, width and arch in millimeters. It is how we choose between the 98, 100, 102 and 104 mm lasts instead of guessing.

Custom orthotic
Optional at any fitting. Built from your scan in about 30 minutes, it holds your foot in a neutral position so the shell and liner above it can do their jobs.

Custom liner
Also optional. A Surefoot liner is foam-injected around your foot inside the Nordica shell, filling the space a stock liner leaves and setting the fit from day one.

Questions
How does Nordica ski boot sizing work?
Nordica sizes in mondopoint, which is the length of your foot in centimeters, so a 26.5 fits a 26.5 cm foot. Nordica's own chart gives two answers for the same foot. Standard fit is the roomier one, for skiers who ski less often and at lower speeds. Performance fit is one full size shorter, for skiers who ski regularly and fast. A US men's 8.5 reads 26.5 in standard fit and 25.5 in performance fit. At Surefoot the scan gives us your length and width in millimeters, so nobody has to pick a row off a chart.
What is the Nordica HF?
The HF is Nordica's easy-entry boot. Instead of buckles over the instep, it closes with a single buckle at the back of the cuff. The shell swings open, you step in, and you push the buckle shut with your foot or the tip of a pole. Nordica calls it a hands-free boot and most skiers call it a rear-entry boot. It runs on Nordica's 102 mm last, and it suits skiers who would rather not fight their boots in the parking lot.
Are Nordica ski boots wide or narrow?
Both, depending on the line. Nordica builds five widths across the range we fit. Promachine is 98 mm and narrow. Unlimited is 99 mm. Speedmachine is 100 mm and medium. Sportmachine and HF are 102 mm, what Nordica calls medium wide. Cruise is 104 mm and wide. Those are forefoot widths at a size 26.5. If a Nordica has felt tight across the forefoot before, it was probably a Promachine. A scan tells us which width fits before you try a boot on.
Do you sell Nordica ski boots online?
No. Ski boots and liners are fitted in store only. The shell has to be chosen on your foot, and a custom liner or orthotic, if you add one, is built the same day. Which Nordica boot is right for women?
Nordica builds women's versions on the same widths with a women's fit. The Speedmachine 3 85 BOA and the HF 85 suit progressing skiers who want comfort and an easy close. The Speedmachine 3 95 BOA and the Sportmachine 3 95 BOA suit skiers who are out most weekends. The Promachine 105 and the Speedmachine 3 105 BOA DD are the stiffer, more precise end of the range. Your fitter chooses by the shape of your foot and how you ski, not by the label on the shell.
What is the difference between the Nordica Speedmachine and the Sportmachine?
They are the same idea in two widths. Speedmachine is Nordica's 100 mm all-mountain boot, the medium fit. Sportmachine is the 102 mm version, what Nordica calls medium wide. Both use Nordica's Tri Force shell construction, and both are built around a BOA dial on the lower shell that winds a cable across the forefoot instead of closing two buckles. If your forefoot needs the extra two millimeters, you ski the Sportmachine. If it does not, the Speedmachine holds the foot closer.
