K2 started on Vashon Island, Washington, in 1962, named for the mountain and for the two Kirschner brothers who founded it. Skis came first: K2's first alpine boots reached shops in 2013. Then in 2022 the three-piece boots K2 had been selling under the Full Tilt name came home to K2 as the FL3X line, which is why a K2 boot can be a four-buckle shell or a three-piece shell with a hinged tongue over the front.
The alpine line sorts itself by width. Cortex is the low-volume boot, 96 to 98 mm, closed by a dial at the shell and a second at the cuff. Recon is the medium boot at 100 mm, and Anthem is its women's version, with a cuff you can adjust to your calf. Mindbender sits on that same 97 to 100 mm shell and adds a walk mode and tech fittings for skinning up. BFC stands for Built For Comfort: a 100 to 103 mm high-volume shell with a cushioned liner and a walk-mode lever, for wide feet and for skiers who want room first. On the three-piece side, FL3X Revolve is the 99 mm freestyle boot and FL3X Method the roomier 102 mm one.
Which of those shells is yours is a question about the shape of your foot, not about how a boot feels in the shop for five minutes, so every K2 fitting at Surefoot starts with a 3D scan. Your fitter uses the scan to choose the shell and the size, and the boot can go home as it comes. If you want more, a custom orthotic holds your foot in a neutral position and a foam-injected Surefoot liner fills the space between your foot and the shell. Both are options at any fitting, not a requirement. K2 says its shells and cuffs are heat-moldable, so the plastic can still be opened up where your foot needs it.

A 3D scan of both feet gives your fitter length, width and arch in millimeters. It is how we choose between K2's 98, 100 and 103 mm shells instead of guessing.

Custom orthotic
Optional at any fitting. Built from your scan in about 30 minutes, it holds your foot in a neutral position so the shell and liner above it can do their jobs.

Also optional. A Surefoot liner is foam-injected around your foot inside the K2 shell, filling the space a stock liner leaves and setting the fit from day one.

Questions
Which K2 ski boot is made for wide feet?
BFC, which K2 names for Built For Comfort. It is the high-volume shell in the line, 100 to 103 mm across the forefoot at a size 26.5, with a cushioned liner and a lever on the back that unlocks the cuff for walking. FL3X Method is the wide one on the three-piece side at 102 mm. Width is only half the answer, though. A wide forefoot with a low instep needs a different shell from a wide forefoot with a high one, which is what the scan tells your fitter before you try anything on.
Is the K2 Revolve a race boot?
No. Revolve is K2's freestyle boot, the three-piece shell that came into the K2 line from Full Tilt in 2022. It has a 99 mm last, a hinged tongue over the front instead of two overlapping shell flaps, and a soft-to-medium flex that stays consistent when it is cold. Racers want a stiff four-buckle shell that holds the foot hard against the plastic. Revolve is built for skiers who spend their day in the park, on rails and on the rest of the mountain in between.
What is the difference between the K2 Recon and the Mindbender?
They share a shell family and a medium last, so the difference is what you do at the top of the hill. Recon is the resort boot, a Powerlite shell at 100 mm built for stability and control on the way down. Mindbender sits on the same 97 to 100 mm shell but adds a walk mode that frees the cuff and tech fittings that clip into touring bindings, so you can skin up and then ski down on one boot. If you never leave the lifts, Recon is the simpler boot.
Is the K2 Revolve the same boot as the Revolver?
Effectively yes. When K2 folded the Full Tilt three-piece boots into its own line in 2022 they were sold as FL3X Revolver and Revolver Pro, and K2 has since shortened the name to Revolve and Revolve Pro. Same three-piece shell, same 99 mm last, same hinged tongue. If you are searching for a Revolver Pro, the current boot is the Revolve Pro.
Do you sell K2 ski boots online?
No. Ski boots and liners are fitted in store only. The shell has to be chosen on your foot, and a custom liner or orthotic, if you add one, is built the same day. How does K2 sizing work?
K2 sizes in mondopoint, which is the length of your foot in centimeters: a 26.5 fits a 26.5 cm foot. Sizes run in half steps, and across K2's line they reach from 22.5 to 31.5 depending on the model. Width is a separate question from length, which is why K2 publishes a last in millimeters for every line. At Surefoot the scan gives us your length and your width in millimeters, so you never size a boot from a chart.
