Ski Boot Size Chart
Mondopoint is your foot length in centimeters, and it is the only ski boot number that means the same thing in every brand.
On this page: a manufacturer's published size chart for men, women and kids, a converter for a measured foot length, and the checks a bootfitter uses to turn a measurement into a boot. Mondopoint is a measurement of your foot, so a 26.5 is a 26.5 in Lange, Nordica, Tecnica, Atomic, Head, Dalbello, K2 and Salomon, which is not true of the US, UK or EU number printed beside it. The chart tells you which rows to look at. The shell check tells you the size.

Nordica describes performance fit as its recommendation for intermediate to advanced skiers who ski regularly, and standard fit for beginner to intermediate skiers who ski less often. Hatched cells are not published by the manufacturer.

As Nordica prints it: US child, US youth and UK sizes against mondopoint 14 to 28. The manufacturer publishes one mondopoint column for juniors and no EU column, so none is shown. Junior boots in our catalog run from a 17.5.

Foot length converter and chart lookup
Convert a measured foot length between millimeters, centimeters and inches, or read one row of the chart above. It does not pick a boot size for you. That happens on your foot, in a shell.
Nothing you type here is stored or sent anywhere. The conversion is arithmetic (1 inch = 25.4 mm) and the lookup reads the chart printed above.
How to measure your foot for ski boots
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall and your weight on the foot, and mark the end of your longest toe. Measure from the wall to the mark in centimeters, then do the other foot. Feet are rarely the same length, and the longer one is the measurement a fitter starts from. That number is your mondopoint measurement. If your tape is imperial, 1 inch is 2.54 cm, and the converter above does the arithmetic.
Two things the tape cannot tell you. Width and instep height decide as much of the fit as length, and how close to the plastic you want to sit depends on how you ski. So a home measurement gets you to the right rows of the chart. The shell check settles the size.
The shell check
The check a bootfitter does is the shell fit. The liner comes out, you stand in the bare shell in a ski sock, you slide your foot forward until your toes touch the front, and the fitter looks at the space behind your heel. Published guidance puts it at roughly one to two fingers, about 15 to 20 millimeters, and tighter for stronger skiers. Your heel should stay down when you flex forward, and your foot should not press into the sides when you stand tall.
A boot that is too long feels loose in much the same way a boot that is too wide feels loose, and the two get mixed up constantly. Length is this page. Width has its own guide, and the fit guide walks through toes, heel, forefoot, instep and calf one at a time.
Foot length, mondopoint size and boot sole length are three different numbers
Foot length is what you measure, in millimeters or centimeters. The mondopoint size is the label on the boot, in centimeters, and it is meant to match a foot length. Boot sole length, BSL, is the length of the boot's outer sole in millimeters, stamped on the heel of the shell, and it is the number your bindings need. A 26.5 boot does not have a 265 mm sole. The shell is longer than the foot inside it.
In most lines two mondopoint sizes share one shell, so they share one sole length too, and it steps up about 10 mm per full size. That is also why catalogs, ours included, list half sizes. The last-width guide covers BSL and the ISO 5355 binding standard in more detail. This page does not calculate binding settings, and neither should a chart at home.
Why size charts differ between brands and shops
Mondopoint is a measurement, so it is the same everywhere. The shoe-size columns are conversions, and every manufacturer writes its own. One prints a single EU number where another prints a range, one prints two mondopoint recommendations per shoe size, and retailer-made charts blend several sources and drift. That is why this page prints one manufacturer's chart, labelled and dated, rather than a table that claims to speak for all of them.
Read any chart across from your measurement, not from your shoe size, and treat the shoe-size columns as a rough check. If two charts disagree about your foot, neither is wrong. They are conventions, and the shell check is the tiebreaker.
Sizing a child's ski boot
Junior boots use the same mondopoint system, and the kids chart above runs from a 14 to a 28 against US child, US youth and UK sizes. Our junior catalog runs from a 17.5. Buying long so a child can grow into a boot rarely works, because a foot that slides inside the shell cannot steer it. Buy the length that fits now, have it checked before every winter, and use the Growing Pains program instead. If a child outgrows their boots within two years of buying them, bring the boots back for a 50 percent credit toward the next pair. Children who buy Surefoot orthotics with their boots get a new pair of orthotics free with their next boots if they outgrow them.
How Surefoot sizes a boot
At Surefoot the tape measure is a 3D scan. Both feet are scanned in the store, which gives your fitter length, width and arch in millimeters rather than a size, and the shell is then chosen on your foot from more than 100 models across every major brand. It is how we decide between two lengths for the same foot, and how we tell a boot that is too long from a boot that is too wide. A custom orthotic milled from your scan and a Surefoot liner foam-injected around your foot while you stand in the shell are options at any fitting rather than requirements, and either one changes the size you should be standing in. A full fitting takes a little over an hour and the boots go home with you the same day. We have been doing it since 1982, starting in Park City, and have more than 3.5 million foot scans on file across 29 stores.

Questions
What size ski boot am I if I wear a size 10?
On Nordica's chart a US men's 10 is a mondopoint 28 in the standard-fit column and 27 in the performance-fit column, and a US women's 10 is a 27 and a 26. Other brands' charts can differ. Treat any of those as a starting point rather than an answer, because the boot is built around your foot length in millimeters, not your shoe size. Measure both feet against a wall and bring the longer number to a fitting. A foot that measures 27.6 cm is a 276 mm measurement, not automatically a 28.
Is mondopoint the same as my shoe size in centimeters?
Close, but not identical. Mondopoint is the length of your bare foot in centimeters, measured from the back of the heel to the end of the longest toe under the ISO 9407 standard. Shoe sizes marked in centimeters usually include some extra room inside the shoe. A ski boot shell is sized to the foot itself, which is why a 26.5 boot feels far shorter than a 26.5 cm sneaker. Measure the foot, not the shoe.
Do ski boots run smaller than regular shoes?
They are fitted closer than street shoes. Nordica's own chart prints two mondopoint recommendations for every shoe size, standard fit and performance fit, one full size apart, and describes performance fit as its recommendation for skiers who ski regularly at higher speeds. Which of the two is right for you is a fitting decision made with your foot in the shell, not something to settle from a chart.
How should a ski boot fit?
Snug everywhere, with your toes brushing the front when you stand tall and pulling back off it when you flex forward, your heel held down, and no pressure into the sides of the shell. The check a fitter does is the shell fit: liner out, foot forward, and the space behind the heel measured, roughly 15 to 20 millimeters in published guidance. Our fit guide takes toes, heel, forefoot, instep and calf one at a time.
Why are ski boots sold in half sizes like 26.5?
In most lines two mondopoint sizes share one shell and the difference sits in the liner and footbed, which is why catalogs, ours included, list 22.5, 23.5, 24.5 and up. Whether a given brand builds a line that way varies by model, and it is one of the things a fitter checks with your foot in the bare shell.
What size ski boots does my child need?
The same system and the same numbers. The kids chart on this page runs from a mondopoint 14 to a 28, and our junior catalog starts at 17.5. Do not size up to buy an extra season, because a foot that slides inside the shell cannot steer it. Buy the length that fits now. If a child outgrows their boots within two years of buying them, bring the boots back for a 50 percent credit toward the next pair. Children who buy Surefoot orthotics with their boots get a new pair of orthotics free with their next boots if they outgrow them.
Do all brands use the same size chart?
Mondopoint is a measurement, so a 26.5 is a 26.5 in every brand. The shoe-size columns are each brand's own conversion, and they do not all agree, especially on EU sizes. That is why this page prints one manufacturer's chart, labelled and dated, rather than a blended table, and why the guide leads with measuring your foot.
Can I just measure my foot at home instead of getting scanned?
You can, and it will get you to the right rows of the chart. A tape measure gives you one number, which is length. A scan gives your fitter length, width and arch in millimeters for both feet, which is what actually decides between two shells that are both the right length. Measure at home to know roughly where you sit, then get the shell chosen on your foot in a store.
